Hope Lodge
Representatives from the American Cancer Society were the guests of honor at a May 18th all employee dock meeting at Trendway Corporation. Mike Lindhout, the Executive Director for Hope Lodge was on hand to accept a donation from Trendway employees in support of the Grand Rapids Hope Lodge.

Offering lodging and transportation to and from Grand Rapids cancer treatment centers free of charge, Hope Lodge is a home-away-from-home for adult cancer patients and their caregivers who must travel to Grand Rapids for treatment.

Cindy Amante, the fundraiser’s coordinator, presented a donation of $2,125 to Lindhout, accompanied by cheers from employees. Lindhout responded by presenting a Certificate of Appreciation to Trendway.

Company board chair Don Heeringa is an ardent supporter of the cause. “The American Cancer Society is one of the best resources we have to make progress on fighting this dread disease,” he declared, noting that cancer had affected his own family, as with so many participants. “We have a great group of people here who are driven to help others,” he said. “There are only about 25 Hope Lodges in the U.S., and West Michigan is blessed to have one. It is worth supporting.”

In keeping with their strong tradition of community support, Trendway employees set out to raise money for Hope Lodge with every creative idea they could think of. They put on a March Madness fundraiser and bowling party, held auctions and vacation day raffles and sold Tribute cards purchased by employees in remembrance or support of loved ones whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Trendway and its employees are long-time supporters of the ACS cause, raising an estimated $40,000 since 2002. An eager participant in the Relay for Life, the team walked away with numerous awards including “Most Laps” and “Best Decorated Site”. The company helped celebrate its 40th anniversary by becoming a Gold Sponsor for the event.

The enthusiasm for these and ongoing events is fueled by hard-working volunteer coordinators, employees Sue Bush and Cindy Amante. “We can only do it because we have company-wide participation”, said Bush, “Top to bottom. We have always had the full support of Trendway employees.”
