The Trendway employees’ 2010 Cruise-In Benefit was one for the record books. Held Friday, September 10 at Trendway headquarters, the event attracted a huge crowd of visitors and participants. “We wanted to break records this year, and we did” said Ed Elzinga, event co-coordinator. “The Benefit was a huge success again, and exceeded all our expectations. We broke records with attendance, number of show vehicles, and money raised. By the 6 p.m. starting time, we already had over 300 cars here, and they just kept pouring in after that.” The 35-acre site overflowed with show cars and attendees.
Over $31,000 was raised by the benefit, held in honor of long-time fellow employee and community member Doug Bosman, who lost his battle against cancer on June 14, 2010. He knew the 2010 Cruise-In Benefit would be held for him and his family. Co-sponsored by Boar’s Head and Thrivent Financial, there was also extensive support from individual and corporate sponsors in the community providing products, services, gift certificates, and donations. “This year’s Cruise-In benefit was especially personal to our company and community,” explained Bill Bundy, Trendway president and CEO, on hand at the event to accept donations. “We were remembering Doug Bosman, our friend and a fellow Trendway employee of nearly 30 years. This year we honored Doug's life. As we had assured him, all proceeds go to benefit his wife, Paula, and two daughters, Taylor and Courtney,” said Bundy.
The event included a car show of street rods, customs, motorcycles, trucks and restored vehicles of all kinds. Well over 500 vehicles took part in the event. For Corvette lovers, there was a special exhibit showcasing more than a dozen fully restored examples spanning the history of the model. Even some amphicars and a functioning yellow submarine joined the show. Besides viewing the amazing vehicles, the hundreds of attendees enjoyed food, prize drawings, children’s games and live entertainment. A big attraction at the event was a raffle offering many valuable items. Winners scored impressive prizes including a scooter, airline tickets anywhere in the continental United States, a 42” flat screen television, and a week at a vacation house in Carmel.
